Here are the maps of the Italian regions which illustrate the Designations of Origin of Italian Wines, the relative areas of production and a table with the grape varieties to produce them. For a more straightforward use, some information has been simplified.
For example, references to particular types (such as raisins, liqueur, late harvest, etc.) have been included in the category linked to their color, and spumanti and sparkling wines have been merged into one category. Further information on simplifications is given in the notes for each table.
The presence on the label of the variety’s name (permitted by the product specification) is only possible if this variety is used to a minimum of 85%. All data in this publication are based on the product specifications of each Designation of Origin wine.
